Halloween fun at 1 Utama

Children and adults dressed up in their Halloween best for some scare-up fun at centre court of 1 Utama shopping centre in Petaling Jaya on 30 Oct 2011.

Make-up artist and TV commercial agent Yoong Swen Moon, 21 and weighing 94 kg was crowned Miss Jumbo Queen 2011 at the grand final held at Sungei Wang Plaza on 1^st November 2011.

Yoong from Cheras Kuala Lumpur beat off nine other contestants to win the title crown, cash prize of RM5,000, trophy, sash and shopping vouchers worth RM2,000

The competition was open to all female Malaysians with a minimum weight of 80kg.

The ten finalists paraded on stage wearing sports wear and evening wear and showed off their talent in singing and dance performance to the cheer of the packed crowd.

The competition boosts their confidence and enhances their great personality,” said event organiser Sungei Wang Plaza senior manager of promotions and public relations, K. K. Lim.

Painting Jalan Sultan mural to save heritage

Over 50 local artists joined forces to create awareness on the importance of preserving heritage by painting on a once neglected and dilapidated wall of a pre-war shophouse next to the carpark on Lot 49, Jalan Sultan last Saturday 15^th October 2011.

The group’s sincere efforts to support the local community in preserving the century-old buildings along a stretch of Jalan Sultan for its heritage deserved to be appreciated and praised.

The buildings are to be acquired by the authorities to build an underground rail station for the Mass Rapid Transport (MRT) project.

The Jalan Sultan Mural painting event which started at 9.00 am and completed by 1.00 pm.was organised by a local daily The Star.

ICI Paints sponsored the cleaning and painting of the wall and the paints for the artists.

who was a strong and powerful leader who developed Kuala
Lumpur into a busy commercial and mining centre during
the mid-19th century.

(1857-1898), the fourth Sultan of Selangor, whom Jalan
Sultan was built and named after him in 1873.

Tourist Magnus Anderson, 47, from Helsingborg, Sweden
who witnessed the artists painting the mural says he is all
for preserving old buildings for its heritage.

Jalan Sulan is named after Sultan Abdul Samad, the fourth
Sultan of Selangor, who ruled from 1857 to 1898.

The Nine Emperor Gods celebration in Sungai Way New Village

The 40-year old Leng Eng Tian Temple located in Jalan SS9A/4, Sungei Way New Village, Petaling Jaya celebrated the Nine Emperor Gods Festival for the last time this year.

Thousands of devotees thronged the temple to offer prayers to the Gods.The grand finale to the festival was the fire-walking ceremony where devotees walk over burning charcoal.

Next year the celebration will be held at a new and bigger temple located nearby Jalan SS9A/5. It is now under construction and nearing completion.

The land on which the temple sits will be taken over by the developer who has provided an alternative land for the new temple.

The nine-day celebration started from the first day to the ninth day of the ninth moon (Sept 27 – Oct 5, 2011) according to the Chinese Lunar Calendar.

Sheena Liam, 20, a Taylor’s University journalism student and Kenzo Tan, 24, a plastic surgery agent were announced the winners of Amaze International Model Search (AIMS) 2011 competition at the grand finale held at Publika Dutamas, Solaris Dutama, Kuala Lumpur on 1st Oct 2011.

Sheena at 75cm tall outshone 10 other finalists in the female category to grab the title whilst Kenzo Tan, at 183cm tall won in the male category.
